The Type 98 4ton prime mover was a Japanese military vehicle used during World War II primarily for towing artillery and other heavy equipment. It was based on a civilian truck design but modified for military use.

The Type 98 was powered by a diesel engine, which provided a balance of power and fuel efficiency. It had a four-speed manual transmission and four-wheel drive, which allowed it to navigate difficult terrain. The vehicle could reach a maximum speed of around 40 kilometers per hour on paved roads and had a range of about 250 kilometers.

The Type 98 prime mover had a crew of three, including a driver, a co-driver, and a gunner. It was armed with a single machine gun, typically a Type 97 or Type 92 heavy machine gun.
